Universal Syrian Orthodox Church
The Universal Syrian Orthodox Church is the most ancient church of Antioch and its foundation dates back to the apostolic times, that is, the first century AD (Acts of Apostles 11: 19-26). In 37AD, Apostle St. Peter the chief of apostles established his See at Antioch. The Apostle St. Peter is therefore rightly considered as first Patriarch of Antioch. Since the time of St. Peter there has been a succession of Patriarchs on this Apostolic See of Antioch. Presently His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Aphrem II is the Syrian Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, the Supreme head of Syrian Orthodox Church.
